Poetry Month 2022(List of events)

 Dear Friends,


Poetry month is arriving, and I am very thankful to each institution, and each individual friend, for the following opportunities we will get to see each other and talk about poetry.
Here we go!:
April 1st

On April 1st, 2022
I will be part of a poetry reading and book signing as poet-in-residence, with the company of Mathias Svalina. Many thanks to our wonderful On Friday, April 1st at 7 PM! hosts, the Soap Gallery, 117 S. Champion St. This event will coincide with the art opening For Your Home: An Exhibition of Works for the Home & Life, which begins at 5:00 pm





April 2nd
I will also offer a Poetry Writing Workshop for Teens.
Description of the event: Poet-in-Residence Manuel Iris offers a poetry writing workshop for teens at The Community Literacy Workforce and Cultural Center, April 2nd from 11-12 at 436 Struthers Coitsville Rd, Lowellville. No experience is necessary. All welcome. (Teens only, please.) Free with registration. We invite you to stay for the Hispanic Culture Celebration after the workshop.
Still on April 2nd, I will be part of the event called: “Giving Voice: Mahoning Valley Hispanic Culture Celebration”



Description of the event: Join us for a bilingual afternoon of award-winning poetry, storytelling, cuisine from local restaurants & music by the Labra Brothers. Many thanks to the local restaurants providing deliciousness for our celebration: Casa Ramirez, El Tapatio, Plaza Mexico, Sr. Jalapeno, El Vallarta, Taquila Jalisco, Norma's Casa de Tacos, Papa's Bakery & Sandwiches, Papa's Puertorican Cuisine Campbell & Anna's Cookin'!
Saturday, April 2, noon to 2:00, The Community Literacy Workforce
& Cultural Center, 436 Struthers Coitsville Rd. *Free and open to the public with registration*
To close this very active day, I will give a Writing in Translation Workshop.
Description of the event: Poet-in-Residence Manuel Iris offers a translation writing workshop hosted by The Community Literacy Workforce and Cultural Center. No experience necessary. All welcome. Free with registration, Saturday, April 2nd from 2-3 at 436 Struthers Coitsville Rd, Lowellville.


April 4th


On April 4th I will have the privilege of hosting the Mexican Poets @Ivan Vergara and Luis Arturo Guichard as part of a US tour called #Poesiaontheroad that will cover 12 cities in the US.




Description of the event: Poetry on the Road/Poesia on the Road
The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library and Cincinnati Poet Laureate Emeritus Manuel Iris will host a bilingual (Spanish and English) poetry reading by the Mexican poets Ivan Vergara and Luis Arturo Guichard. Both of these poets live in Spain, where they are part of a vibrant cultural life. We will have the opportunity to learn about their work and their experiences of migration from Mexico to Spain. This reading is part of a US tour called #Poesiaontheroad that will cover 12 cities in the US.

April 6
Quoting the MSJ website: "Two nationally known poets will join Mount students, faculty and staff in celebrating National Poetry Month on the Mount St. Joseph campus the week of April 4.
Among notable guest poets participating will be Nikki Giovanni and Manuel Iris." (I know, I can't believe this either)
Place and time for my reading: English on Wednesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Mount St. Joseph campus




April 20th
Please join us in the Eva G. Farris Reading Room of Steely Library for an exclusive meet and greet event with Poet Laureate Emeritus Manuel Iris, sponsored by the Friends of Steely Library.
Join us in celebrating and learning from one of Cincinnati's most extraordinary talents.
Happy hour VIP experience: 6 - 7 p.m. (reservation required)
Presentation and book signing: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. (open to the public
April 27th
